industry standards such as Days Healthcare (Strider), Roma (Shoprider), Medicare
Technology, Sunrise Medical (Sterling) and TGA . Ensuring there's always a
scooter to meet your needs. Scooters
are categorised in to four types:
|
Portable
Scooters - These scooters are designed with ease of disassembly for
transportation in cars or public transport. Will typically carry a maximum
weight of 18 stone and a range of 8-10 miles. They have a maximum speed of
4mph. See Whisper, Cameo 3 and Cameo 4.
|
Pavement
Scooters - Technically Class 2 vehicles. Generally these scooters are not as
easy to dismantle as the portable scooters. Typically they will a greater
range of 15-20 miles and a weight capacity of 18-21 stone. But again the
speed is limited to 4mph. They can also have a greater degree of comfort
including some suspension. See Sovereign 4, Pearl (this is the exception as
it does easily dismantle for transportation) and Monami.
|
Road
Scooters - Technically Class 3 vehicles. Scooters designed for road use.
They will come with a dual speed switch of 4/6 or 4/8 mph and have lights
and indicators. Partial or full suspension comes as standard and there will be more
accessories and features. Larger wheels enable the use over uneven surfaces. Range is increased to 20-25 miles as is the weight carrying
capacity to 21-25 stone. See Monami Vitesse, Maxi Strider Plus, Cadiz, Mercury
M48 and Maxi Strider.
|
Heavy
Duty/Luxury Scooters - These are still class 3 vehicles but with even better
performance. Some will carry up to 39 stone, others will go up to 35 miles
and others have a level of sophistication not found on many cars. See
Mercury M48GT, Super Sport and Breeze 3 & 4. |
