Powered Wheelchairs
have a shorter wheelbase than scooters than are easily manoeuvred within
the smallest spaces both indoors and outdoors.
Powerchairs operate
from a joystick, usually attached to the armrest – the further you push
the joystick from the centre, the faster you will go. The brakes work
automatically when the joystick is released or moved back to the centre
position.
As with scooters,
power chairs are available in a range of options - from smaller, more
easily disassembled models, to larger outdoor versions with kerb climbing
and rough terrain or road capabilities.
Powerchairs also
offer a broader range of seating, control and accessory options for
persons with specific health requirements.
